Tour de Fleece

Camel/Silk Singles Waiting to be Plied
I wasn't planning on participating in the Tour de Fleece this year.  I told myself I was too busy and rationalized that I've barely touched my spinning wheel since the last one.  Strangely enough, I started spinning yesterday, quite by accident.  I finished the first camel/silk single that had been languishing on my wheel since February, and then I spent the next hour or so spinning through the second camel/silk single.  It didn't even occur to me til much, much later that Saturday was the first day of the Tour de Fleece!

Quite by accident, I will be challenging myself to spin every day til July 22nd.  It would be great if I could stay in the habit of spinning a bit every day, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves, right?!  I'll just be happy if I can spin through a few braids of my fiber stash this month.  Meanwhile, here is my plied yarn (the fiber is a 50/50 camel/silk blend from Louet):
I had some extra camel/silk that I plied with a mystery single that hangs out near my wheel, hoping for just such an occasion. Today was its lucky day!

    I keep telling myself that even just 15 minutes a day at the wheel is good; it's only 15 minutes, and it's so calming I could even do it first thing in the morning (maybe the calmness would inspire me to not be so short-tempered later in the day). And yet... sigh. My poor lonely wheel. I guess what I'm saying is doooo eeeeet! Spin every day! You can do it! (We should encourage and remind each other!)

    Seriously - I think every six months I have that very revelation....and then, after a few weeks, I fall off the spinning wagon! Sounds like you do, too! Will try to remind you (and myself!) to spin more often!

A Finished Sweater, With Cat Hair

After losing Tilly and Robin within a year of each other, I sure didn't think I'd be finding cat hair in my knitting any time soon. But the universe had other ideas. Over the winter, a white feral cat adopted us. I'd noticed her when we moved into our apartment last summer - I would see her hiding in the bushes or sunning herself in the grass when she thought no one was looking. I assumed she was someone's cat until I realized how skittish she was around humans, plus she had a tipped ear, which is a universal sign that a feral/stray cat has been spayed. Neighbors confirmed that she was a feral kitty (descended from several generations of feral cats, in fact), and that she has survived on her wits and whatever food various residents put out for her.  We had some bitterly cold days over the winter, and I just felt so sorry for this poor kitty! Easy DIY: Beaded Vintage Snowflake Ornament Kits from Solid Oak Inc.

I was really excited to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new as part of my "Christmas in July" theme this month. The kind folks at Solid Oak Inc offered me a chance to review one of their Nostalgic Christmas beaded crystal ornament kits I couldn't resist. My tree is already full of ornaments I've inherited or been gifted from other family members and friends,  so these pretty crystal beaded ornaments will fit right in I think! I was super impressed with  this compact little kit , which includes everything needed to create three gorgeous vintage-style ornaments - just add a pair of round nose pliers (I found mine on Amazon for less than ten bucks).  The instructions had some fabulous tips for newbies like me; for example, it recommended sorting the beads and laying them out in order on a towel or beading mat to prevent them from rolling away.
